Reading Can Be Therapeutic
At the end of 2015, I made a promise to myself to read one book per month of 2016. Prior to that promise, I had started reading a few books and maybe finished two (I’m being nice) in 2014-2015. If you’ve read my previous posts, you know I was at what I considered to be a low point in my life and I needed a way to occupy my mind. So reading it was!
I was inspired to start 2016 reading books about individuals who have gone through a transformation and shared this journey with the world. I chose books that would inspire, motivate, and heal me. You’ll see as the year went on, I threw in some books related to personal development and financial literacy.
Why mention reading? Because it can be a form of therapy. (Yes, there’s a term, it’s called bibliotherapy. Read more about it here and here). Reading was a helpful distraction, in addition to being informative and transformative. Here’s a list of the books I read in 2016. I was able to download many of them for free from my local library or through kindle downloads from Amazon. I hope you check them out. Comment below on the books you enjoy reading and share any books that have helped your emotional health.
